This career major is an introduction to common welding processes and precision metal fabrication. Students will be introduced to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW). Students will also be introduced to blue print reading and construction of items according to specifications. Additional areas covered include development of layout and the sequence of operations for fabricating and assembling metal products. Students will be instructed in the proper processing in fitting materials together and how to test the strength of the welds.

The program will focus on industrial, construction, and agriculture welding. The uses of applications of oxy-fuel cutting, shielded metal arc, fluxed core arc, and gas tungsten arc welding will be covered. Students will learn proper safety, tool identification and usage, construction math skills, welding symbols, and blueprint reading. Forklift training certificates can also be received after successful completion of a training course. Students will also have the opportunity to take welding certification tests at the completion of the course.

Welding is the most common method for permanently bonding metal parts. Due to its strength, welding is used to construct and repair cars, appliances and many other products. In buildings, highways and bridges, welding is used to join beams and reinforcing rods. Program emphasis is on semi-automatic processes, SMAW, GTAW and structural and pipe welding.
