The Welding Technology program is designed to give the students the necessary classroom instruction and practical work experience needed for entry-level job performance. Basic practical experience is gained by shop practice, student projects, and repair work. Oral, written, and performance tests are given to measure the student’s proficiencies.The day program takes 12 months to complete and the evening program takes 24 months to complete.

Northeast State Community College Combination Welding

The Combination Welding technical certificate program is designed to prepare individuals for employment as welders in an industrial setting. Instruction is provided in blueprint reading, Oxy-fuel, stick-arc Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), and Plasma arc cutting. Appropriate credit for successful completion of courses in this certificate program may be applied to the Associate of Applied Science degree program, Industrial Technology - Concentration: Welding/Metal Fabrication.

Southern's Technology Department has two classes in welding that are part of the auto program. We do not currently offer a degree in welding, but by taking these two classes you will be able to weld using several processes. The processes taught are mig, tig, arc-stick, and oxy-acetylene. Students learn to weld several types of metal: steel, aluminum, and cast iron. These metals are often welded in the auto repair process. We teach mig welding of sheet metal and plate steel.
